This study examines the reconstruction of learning models in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) to align with the core principles of the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) Curriculum, which emphasizes student autonomy, flexibility, and contextualized learning experiences. Although the curriculum encourages innovation, classroom practices often remain limited by traditional lecture-based approaches, low student engagement, and the insufficient integration of Islamic values to support character development. Using a descriptive qualitative approach supported by literature analysis, this research identifies essential elements needed to redesign a more adaptive and responsive learning model. The reconstructed approach highlights the importance of offering learning opportunities that promote exploration, collaboration, and active involvement through project-based and student-centered activities. Islamic values such as discipline, responsibility, sincerity, and mutual cooperation serve as the foundation for strengthening students’ independence in learning. The study also underscores the role of technology integration, authentic assessments, and real-life application of concepts in enhancing motivation and helping students internalize Islamic teachings in meaningful ways. The findings suggest that an effective PAI learning model should not only deliver religious knowledge but also cultivate character and life skills that are relevant to contemporary educational demands. By adopting a reconstructed model that integrates these pedagogical and value-based components, Islamic Religious Education is expected to produce learners who are independent, ethically grounded, and capable of responding to modern challenges while maintaining strong spiritual identity
