Economic education in high schools is very important for improving students' financial knowledge and analytical thinking skills, especially regarding capital market material that requires an understanding of concepts and data analysis. However, schools still use a conventional teacher-centered approach for teaching capital markets, so students are not very engaged. According to the literature review, the problem-based learning (PBL) model is considered capable of enhancing critical thinking skills, participation, and conceptual understanding through contextual problem-solving. The purpose of this study is to examine how the implementation of PBL impacts students' learning outcomes in economic material related to the capital market. This study uses a quasi-experimental method, with an experimental design and a control group. Students in grade X at SMA Negeri 8 Palembang are the subjects of this study. Because the data did not have a normal distribution, pretest and posttest tests were used to collect data, which were then analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test. The results of the study showed that the implementation of PBL improved the average learning outcomes of the experimental class. However, the statistical test results showed that there was no statistically significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. PBL, however, benefits student activity and the quality of the learning process.
