Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir) is a dynamic field of Islamic scholarship that continues to develop in line with historical and intellectual changes. This development is reflected not only in the diversity of interpretative works but also in the methods and models of tafsir research. This study aims to examine systematically the types and models of tafsir research that have evolved within the discipline of Qur’anic studies. Employing a qualitative library research method, this study analyzes various scholarly works on tafsir research methodology. The findings indicate that tafsir research can generally be classified into two main types: library research and field research, each with distinct characteristics, strengths, and limitations. Furthermore, the study identifies five major models of tafsir research: scholar-oriented research, thematic research, philological or manuscript-based research, living Qur’an studies, and comparative research. The diversity of these research types and models demonstrates the methodological flexibility of tafsir studies in responding to intellectual developments and social realities. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of tafsir research types and models is essential for advancing systematic, contextual, and academically accountable Qur’anic studies
