Semantics is a branch of linguistics that studies the meaning of language, while in the Arab scientific tradition, the study of meaning is known as Ilmu Dalālah. Both have the same goal, which is to understand the relationship between words and meaning, but they developed through different historical backgrounds and methodological approaches. This article aims to examine the concepts of semantics and Ilmu Dalālah within the framework of Arabic linguistics and to trace the development of the study of meaning in the Islamic scientific tradition. This research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach through analysis of classical and contemporary works in the field of Arabic linguistics and semantics. The results of the study show that the science of Dalālah has developed since the early days of the codification of Arabic language science and has made an important contribution to understanding the Qur'an, hadith, and Islamic texts. In addition, the integration of modern semantics and classical Dalālah science can enrich contemporary Arabic linguistic studies. This article is expected to serve as a conceptual reference for the development of meaning studies in Arabic linguistics.
