Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors causing low student interest in economics among eleventh-grade students of SMAN 2 Kayuagung, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The research informants consisted of economics teachers and eleventh-grade students. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results of the study indicate that low student interest in economics is influenced by several main factors, namely the use of learning methods that tend to be monotonous and teacher-centered, students' perceptions that economics is difficult and confusing, limited media and learning resources used in the learning process, and the low relevance of economics material to students' daily lives. These conditions cause students to be less active, easily bored, and lack focus during the learning process. This study recommends the implementation of more varied, participatory, and contextual learning strategies through the use of digital media, discussions of real cases, and the integration of economics material with students' life experiences to increase students' interest in learning economics
